January 2007 is the beginning of a New Year.
Begin 2007 by putting your personal finances in order.

This month learn about making New Year's Resolutions by reading the article, " What's New January 2007?"

Be Money Wise and discover the Top 5 Tips to Maximize Money in 2007

A new listing has been compiled to continue the series " When to Buy What You Want and What You Need.' This listing features items on sale in many retail establishments in Thunder Bay in January 2007.

You will see that the "theme of New Year's Resolutions"  even affects what Retailers are selling at this time of the year. With all of the weight loss, stop smoking and nutritional supplements being offered for those who feel they need to lose weight or become healthier.  All of the organizing products such as storage bins, storage chests and closets for those of us who wish to be more organized in this new year. There are several home cleaning products available and on sale at this time of the year for anyone who wants to catch up on house cleaning.

There's a sense of renewal with some of the products being offered, January white sales for towels, bedding, and linens, mattresses and bedroom suites, sofas and recliner chairs, as well as appliances for the home. Some of these items will aid in rest and relaxation which could be viewed as stress relief. Stress relief can also be accomplished if you can afford to replace some of the worn pieces of furniture you may have or that broken appliance that can't be repaired.

Don't replace any of these items though if you have to pay for them with credit and won't be able to pay off the credit balance as soon as it is due. Most of these items reduce in value and will not be worth the selling price by the time you pay for them with interest.

Some of the products being offered are related to  winter and are considered seasonal. Products such as booster cables, batteries, winter tires, ice fishing gear, skates, all of these products have a winter theme. You'll find these items starting to go on sale because at this time of the year winter is almost over for retailers.

With a little planning you can purchase what you need or what you want without always paying the premium price. The only difference in a product that is on sale, is it's price, the product is exactly the same whether you pay the premium or the sale price. By changing the way you make purchases you will be saving money, which means you will have more money to do some of the other things you need to do or want to do.

Here are some of the other things to consider doing with those extra dollars:

  • start a savings plan for emergencies and for fun
  • repay debt
  • put your finances in order

New Year's themes to consider:

  • Health and Wellness with a Sense of Well Being
  • Put your finances in order: repay debt and start a savings plan
  • Consider increasing the amount of money you pay into your Registered Retirement Savings Plans especially if you have carry forward contribution room
