The 'how to's' of Budgeting

Budgeting: Parts One to Four are valuable resources which will assist you to develop your budget and to understand the basics involved in the budgeting process.

Part One: What is Budgeting?

  • looking at "what money is coming in" at a given period of time and
  • "what money is going out" at a given period of time.
  • the period of time can be day to day, week to week, month to month, year to year or any combination in between.
  • Budgeting will help you to complete your Statement of Lifestyle Expenditures 

 

Part Two: How to track expenses discusses

To figure out what your typical day looks like, you will need to track your expenses.

If you're not sure what your typical day looks like, or how to track your expenses here are a couple of ways to figure it out:

  • save all of your receipts for the day, week, month
  • total them up on a regular basis to see how much you've spent
  • consider what you were spending for -- need or want

 

Part Three: The Key to Budgeting discusses

Now that you understand "what budgeting is", "how to Track your expenses" and "what your typical spending day looks like" it is time to look at:

The most important part of budgeting which is to be organized.

You need to have a place where you keep everything that needs to be paid.

Part Four: Develop Your Own Personal Budget discusses

When you develop your budget you will need all of the information you gathered in Budgeting: Parts One to Three. 

Next, you will put it all together into a format that will be known as your Budget.
