The Northern Homeowner Repair Program (NHRP)


You May Qualify for Help!

The NHRP is a partnership between all three levels of government offering financial help to low to moderate income homeowners that need to make home repairs for health, safety, or accessibility reasons.

Repair costs will be equally funded by the federal and provincial governments, while the program is administered by the Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB).

You do not have to be METIS to qualify for the program.

If you answer 'yes' to these questions, you may be eligible:

  • do you live in the District of Thunder Bay (including the City of Thunder Bay)?
  • does your home need reparis for health, safety or accessibility reasons?
  • Is your home your sole and principal residence?
  • Is your home valued at or below the average seeling price for your community?
  • Is your household income below $54,900 (or lower for smaller families)?
  • Is your home at least five years old?
  • Will mortgages and liens on your home total less than its market value after it is repaired?
  • Do you have no outsanding property taxes or water bills, and no mortgage arrears?
  • Do you have insurance for the full replacement value of your home?
